Sculpture Size Guide: Proportions That Work in Any Room

The exact proportions interior designers use to size sculpture for shelves, consoles, floors, and tabletops.

Sizing Is 80% of the Result

A sculpture looks wrong far more often from size than from style. The good news: the proportions are simple rules that anyone can apply.

The Rules by Location

  • Tabletop / console: piece height = 50-70% of surface height; surface should remain two-thirds empty
  • Shelf: piece height = 60-75% of shelf height; flank with books and low objects, never crowd
  • Floor / statement: piece height = 50-60% of the height of the furniture beside it (sofa, sideboard)
  • Mantel: one-third to one-half of the mantel width; group of three for wider mantels
  • The Viewing Distance Test

Walk to the spot you will most often view the piece from. It should read clearly at that distance — bold enough to register, small enough not to dominate. If you squint, it's too small. If it makes the room feel crowded, it's too large.

    Height Charts, Made Simple

  • 15-25 cm: shelves, desks, nightstands
  • 25-45 cm: consoles, sideboards, mantels
  • 45-90 cm: side tables, floor statements in small rooms
  • 90 cm+: the hero piece — entryways, large living rooms
  • Size It Right

Every product page includes full dimensions, and the scene preview shows scale against real furniture — use it before you commit. Browse by size across the sculpture collection.
